I Recommend- That you immediately refrain from using any household cleaners that have been suggested for use on your countertops! These may be effective on man-made materials but are harmful and will damage your stone countertops. We can renew your marble surface and restore your polished surfaces back like new.
Jim: My husband is a real "do it yourself er" and I mentioned to him he should at least call someone to help him seal our newly installed travertine, but the department store clerk insisted otherwise.., now we have streaks and dirty marks all over our expensive stone floor. Any quick remedies?
Dear "Do it to yourselfer" Unfortunately nothing will fix it too quickly. Sometimes the shortcut leads to the longway- right way! Sounds like you've gotten into a product (for the sake of not being sued I won't mention the name) that is referred to as a coating finish. It is a favorite product of tile installers and the inexperienced person hired to cheaply seal a natural stone floor. The product actually coats over the stone not allowing it to breathe (vapor transmission). It is favored because it hides installation problems and product imperfections i.e. scratches or etch marks. The proper process for a long lasting finish is a mechanical shine. This is acquired with diamond discs and is the industry standard and accepted practice. A specialized trade to which I can proudly say we are quite experienced in.
NOW-- to fix this, the product must be stripped off and the stone cleaned and properly sealed. Next determine the finish look you want and proceed forward. PS. Please stay away from any quick- fix!
